My students were delighted with author Julie Wenzlick. She kept my students engage during her presentation not only by sharing her stories but also by including activities to get them moving and singing. In fact, my students were still singing her songs days later…and some still are a month later! As a teacher, I loved how she shared her journey of becoming an author. She explained the writing process and her experiences in finding and working with different illustrators. She drew my students in by sharing an original story she had written in elementary school! My students were excited with the idea that they could also become authors!

Julie gives the students a combination of the enjoyment and love of reading. Seeing someone who has published books shows students that they, too, could do something they didn’t think was possible.

We were so fortunate to have Julie visit our building. She shared about her family, her writing history, and her books in an interactive way. Our students especially loved the songs and movements that Julie presented to coincide with her stories. It was fun for all!

I couldn’t believe that you wrote that dragon poem when you were in 4th grade. I like how you revised it.

Phenomenal! Mrs. Wenzlick’s presentation was so entertaining. The students loved listening to the stories and learning the songs. Our students were singing the verses for weeks following her visit. We booked her again for next year!
